About me

My name is Jitka, I’m 24 years old, currently living and doing my master's in conservation science and biodiversity managment in Vienna, Austria. I started photography about 12 years ago when I first got a phone with a camera (remember when 3,2Mpx was the best that you could get?) as I always felt the urge to capture beautiful things and moments around me. Since then this little hobby of mine has turned into my biggest passion and the thing I’ve devoted all my free time to - nowadays I literally spend all my free time either taking photos or editing (and my most said senteces are: „Wait, I’m just quickly going to change my lenses“ and „I’m just going to take a photo of this flower/building/watever real quick“ – my friends would tell you this is 100% accurate).

 I especially enjoy landscape and macro photography,  occasionaly I shoot portraits and lately (well, it's been about 4 years already haha) I fell in love with street photography (damn you, Vienna and your beautiful photogenic streets!). What I’m trying to capture are mostly things a normal person (and by normal I mean not a photography freak constantly screening every inch of all the surroundings for a possible shot) would maybe over look. All those beautiful little flowers, the long shadows during golden hours, the hidden cabins in the mountains  you wouldn’t necessarily focus on while hiking or skiing, or just a different angle/framing of a certain view (yeah, I also take my camera with me when I go skiing…). We’re constantly bombarded with bad news from the media and  that’s why I want to show the beauty of the world through my photography (basically as a reminder that not everything is bad and ugly).

I get inspiration for my shots from my daily commute to uni or simply from walking around through my neighbourhood and discovering cool spots I can either incorporate into my shots or use as a backdrop for shootings. I used to get a lot of inspiration from Instagram and I still find it a great tool for inspiration but I felt like looking at photos of others only made me copy the shots and not work creatively. So yeah, that's where I am at with inspiration. I have a little tip here tho: reading books is such an incredible inspiration and creativity boost. That's where I like to look A LOT.
